Wow...I can't believe it's March! Once again I'm reminded that life as a college student flies by. This semester has been crazy and I can't believe I'm only six weeks away from the end.
To start, I had Sorority recruitment at the beginning of the year. Luckily, all went well and every sorority received great new members!
We've had amazing speakers this past semester. For the Student Government sponsored Classroom on the Quad, former Attorney General Janet Reno came to talk about immigration. She was so knowledgeable...and so tall! Also, Ralph Nader spoke at Emory a couple of weeks ago. His event was sold out as he is also an interesting man to listen to.
Next week, Alice Walker, the author of The Color Purple, will be speaking at Glenn Memorial. I'm so excited to go! She's one of my favorite authors.
Meanwhile, students just came back from Spring Break. We're all happy to be back at Emory, but we definitely enjoyed the break. I happen to go on break with 25 other Emory students...we just brought the campus with us!
This next week is one of the most important weeks for Emory: Dooley's Week. We are having comedian Mo Rocca coming to speak, the band Ok Go, and as the finale: a pirate themed Dooley's Ball. This ball is the social event of the season and attended by nearly every Emory student. All of this is in honor of our unofficial mascot, Dooley. Dooley is the immortal spirit of Emory and is a skeleton. If you see any skeletons around campus, it's pretty safe to say it's him!
I can't believe Graduation is only 6 weeks away! I'm in disbelief as I don't want any of my senior friends to leave. That's one of the hardest parts of college is seeing your friends go. What's even crazier is that I'm going to be a senior next year... I feel like I moved into my freshman dorm yesterday.
I'll get back to you soon! I'm off to class.

Thanksgiving is nearly here!
It's that time again when as a college student you realize that your semester is almost over. After Thanksgiving, you come back to campus and await the few days before finals hit. But it never fails that every student anxiously awaits Thanksgiving...even though we all know what it means.
It's the middle of November and the weather is still beautiful. It's 65 degrees and the sun is shining. I just saw a few girls laying out in front of their dorm. I know we all tell you that you can still wear shorts here during this time...we're noy lying. Fall is here though. The leaves have changed and are rustling all over campus. Emory is so beautiful in the fall!
Tonight, I have the honor of attending the Emory Board of Trustees reception. Basically, I get to meet a lot of important people in the Emory community. I'm pretty excited and I'm hoping to make a few connections that might come in hand in the near future. Internship....? Honestly, Emory does have fantastic alumni who are amazingly successful. More importantly, alums are more than happy to help out their fellow Emory students.
Tomorrow night, I'm attending a Greek Philanthropy event. The event is called Greek Physique and is basically an all male beauty pageant. The idea of all male makes it that more entertaining. Every fraternity selects a representative from their respective organization whoe competes with all of the other representatives from all of the fraternities. The competition includes a talent, formal wear, question/answer, etc. All of the proceeds go the Kappa Alpha Theta's national philanthropy, Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA). The best part is that there is no limit to what males will do to win a competition.
On Saturday, the Office of Sorority and Fraternity Life is putting on Novemberfest. Novemberfest is like a trial-run on sorority recruitment. It gives Prospective Members an idea of what the recruitment process is really like. Also, Novemberfest enables you to meet so many girls in the Emory community!
Well I am off for now...I have to go get ready for that Trustee Reception... Enjoy Thanksgiving!

Fall
And I'm back....After dealing with some technical difficulties, I can now blog again!!
Where to start...I need to cover two months. Orientation was phenomenal! My student group was so kind and I had such a good time helping them get situated at Emory. Orientation really does help students adjust more quickly to college life. Your groups give you some instant friends to call on in when in the first weeks of school.
The weather has been wonderful since school began. It's been perfect for Wonderful Wednesdays, for having classes on the quad, and for ultimate frisbee in Asbury Circle or the quad. Unfortunately, Atlanta is experiencing the worst drought in years. We need rain!! But, the university is coming together to promote water conservation among all students, faculty, and staff. We've been given information on how to be more sustainable, and students are really making an effort to help the situation. Two weeks ago, Emory enacted a lights out campaign. In preparation for the Dalai Lama, lights were turned off on most of the campus for a thirty minutes. An aerial photograph was taken of campus and presented to the Dalai Lama in recognition of his advocacy of sustainability initiatives.
Two weeks ago, I was able to hear one of my all time favorite role models speak at Emory. Former Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor came to the law school to speak at a conference about Federal Courts. She was so eloquent, witty, and intelligent, but also very genuine and down-to-earth.
The greatest thing that has happened in the course of the semester is: The arrival of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. To help you imagine how crazy this way...His caravan was bigger than the President's. The Dalai Lama was here to give lectures as a newly installed professor for the university. I was fortunate enough to go to the installation. He sat on stage with President Wagner and members of the Emory community. Honestly, I have never been in the presence of a human being who gave me such serenity and happiness. I know that sounds cheesy, but it is so true. He was a such a humble, sweet, and FUNNY man! He cracked jokes with the audience the whole way through. His lecture was also very interesting and inspiring. I feel so lucky to have heard him speak!
We are all in preparation of Halloween here! The parties are countless and so is the fun. I just have to figure out all of my outfits...which is why I must go now!!
Happy Halloween!

Orientation has begun!
I guess I consider myself one of the luckier returning Emory students. I'm a junior....gasp...horror...Where did the past two years go? Fortunately, I'm an orientation leader! It makes me feel young again, being like a new freshman. And by young, I mean like 18. I'm only 20!
All of the new freshmen are so fun! I've had a great time with my orientation group. We've discussed everything from classes, professors, life at Emory, social stuff, and the miscellaneous things like Pasta John, Wonderful Wednesdays, Emory traditions, etc. Yesterday, I helped out a ton of freshman, transfer students, and Oxford continuees with their schedules. Hopefully, everyone gets the classes that they want.
The students loved the hypnotist the other night! The same hypnotist has been coming here for years during orientation with the same routine, but every year, it's hilarious! The David Hasselhoff inpersonator was hysterical this time! I almost fell out of the pew laughing while I was listening to him.
Tonight, I'm so excited for Best in Show! Best in Show is a late night Emory program during orientation that showcases all of Emory's cultural groups, acapella groups, dance teams, comedy and theatre groups. I remember Best in Show being my favorite night of the beginning of my freshman year. It was the ah-ha moment of my first year, when you know positively that you made the right decision about where you went to college.
I'll get back to you on how Best in Show goes. I'm pretty psyched about tonight! Hopefully, the freshmen are too. Last year it was so packed, that this year, we are handing out tickets. I'm pretty sure that is a sign that it's very popular!

Another Emory year begins soon!
Well, I've been on vacation for the past two weeks without a computer! My parents wanted a technology free vacation, minus cell phones which are a necessity.
Anyways, another year at Emory is coming around faster than I can believe. It's official, I am half way through my college education. The time has flown by! I guess that's a good thing though, considering it means that I loved being here. I'm an orientation leader so I get to go back on campus with freshmen. I'm sure you will see me around.
Orientation is a really fun part of freshman year. You get to meet a lot of people in your group and actually become really close to some of them. I have a lot of friends who were in my orientation/FAME group. The week can be exhausting though.
We have a lot of great things in store for the freshman class in the next couple of weeks. The start of Emory is always eventful. Everyone moving in, parents with their cars everywhere. Project Move-In people with their brown look-a-like UPS shirts carrying crates of stuff all throughout campus. The Coca-Cola toast to commence every year. It's all something to experience!
I can't wait for it to start! But I think after it's all over, I'm going to need 72 hours at least to recover!

ATL is amazing!
Hey again...
So this past weekend I decided to take in a few of the Atlanta attractions.
I went to the High Museum to see the Annie Liebovitz exhibit. All of her major photographs were there: the Demi Moore shot, John Lennon and Yoko Ono, plenty of other celebs, etc. I was almost surprised to see so many people there. I checked out the Louvre exhibit again, and found out that the next collection of art is coming in September. The Ghiberti exhibit which showcased four of the original bronze panels from the baptistry in Florence, Italy was amazing! Apparently, the panels are will only be shown at the Met in New York and at the Art Institute in Chicago. The High is really gaining so much clout in the Art world. I'm amazed with how many great collections they get every year. Every Emory student should take the opportunity to visit!
Friday night I went to one of my favorite Atlanta restaurants, Two Urban Licks, and as always had a great dinner. The restaurant itself is amazing and the food is even better. After dinner, I went see an Emory student band play at a local venue. They were pretty good and I have no doubt that they will play at a Wonderful Wednesday this year. The bands are always one of the best parts about Wonderful Wednesday. It's always fun to see your friends play though.
I'm pretty psyched about tonight! I'm going with some friends to see a double feature of The Departed and Goodfellas at the Fox Theatre. The Fox Theatre is a beautiful venue where parties, formals, screenings, and etc take place. At some point in your college career at Emory, you will go to a function at the Fox Theatre. It's pretty much a guarantee.
Like all Emory students, I love Atlanta! It truly is one of the best things about coming to Emory. There is always something to do, somewhere to go, great restaurants. ATL has everything and more that a college student could want! As an Emory student you get the best of both worlds: a close knit campus surrounded by a big city and all its amenities. Yeah I know...it sounds really cheesy but seriously it's true!

Summer Flies By!
Wow...I can't believe I only have around a month left of summer. But, I guess that's how it always is.
I took a walk through Lullwater and campus yesterday. It was such a beautiful day with the typically perfect Atlanta weather. Everywhere looked so wonderful. Per usual, the landscaping looked great!...Something you get used to as an Emory student. As a freshman, you become aware of the popular legend that Emory spends around a billion dollars a year on flowers. Obviously, that much is impossible, but you know it has be an insane amount. Regardless, the campus always looks amazing!
I was so surprised to see the new road around Asbury Circle and the new freshman dorm. It's nearly finished and looks basically like a palace...much congratulations to the students who get to live there. Seriously. I will be paying a visit to those dorm rooms! In a few years, all of the freshman dorms will look like that. Incredible! Emory only gets better with age!
I'm still looking forward to starting school again. That's the good thing about Emory. Students do really have a desire to come back. Whether it's because of all the fun things about college, or the people you become friends with here, and even the brilliant professors and great classes you take, Emory keeps you coming back each year wanting more.
